…Robin Hood Tax - Get ready to take action on 10 April…
Over the last few weeks the Robin Hood Tax movement has been growing at a phenomenal rate thanks to supporters like you.
Celebrities have been lending their weight to the campaign, and nearly a quarter of MPs have signed their names in support. Economic brains including Jeffrey Sachs have gathered to discuss the tax at the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, and every major newspaper has been charting its progress. It's been a long time since a campaign has enjoyed so much popular support.
But no political party has yet pledged to implement even the first stages of this tax.
We need to show the current government and all the political parties that we, the UK public, want this tax to be put in place.
Take action – "Make your Saturday merry" on 10 April
Gordon Brown has described the online campaign as "formidable" – and it's time to take the campaign onto the streets. Be prepared for huge numbers of green tights, bows and arrows, lots of photos of supporters and a whole lot of noise.
Find out how you can make merry with Robin Hood
The start of the election period is a great opportunity to tell our leaders what we want – let's make the most of it. This tiny tax of 0.05% (50p in every £1,000) on speculative banking could raise money to help the world's poorest people, tackle climate change, and protect and build public services both at home and abroad.
Best wishes
